Get involved in Refugee Week 2009!

Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees and encourage better understanding between communities. Refugee Week 2009 will take place from 15th to 21st June.

The purpose of the week is to counter fear, ignorance and negative stereotypes of refugees. The week celebrates the contribution of refugees to the UK and promotes understanding about the reasons people seek sanctuary.

Every year, hundreds of events happen across the country, ranging from big music festivals and art exhibitions to political debates, film screenings, conferences, school activities, sports and community events.

This is your chance to get involved. The Refugee Week team needs two volunteers and two interns (all posts are voluntary):

Internships

1. New Media Officer – To identify and coordinate new media opportunities for the Small Action campaign
2. Media Officer – To coordinate the delivery of Media Strategy for Refugee Week

Volunteer roles

1. Marketing Officer – To increase the profile of Refugee Week to a wider audience
2. Events, Information & Supply Officer – To develop informational and promotional literature specific to refugee community organisations

All posts are due to begin in early February 2009. Deadlines are 21st January for Intern roles and 28th January for Volunteer roles.

Please note that while STAR is a partner agency of Refugee Week, these roles are with the Refugee Week team, which is a separate organisation.
