Campaigns Update: Upcoming Actions….!

The next few months campaigning for the Still Human Still Here Campaign will be busy ones so an outline of the campaigning opportunities over the next few months is in order!

Current Actions
In the last week or two Bristol, Cambridge and Warwick STAR have all been campaigning on campus or in their local area as well as collecting petition signatures! Well done to you guys and lets keep raising awareness about the campaign! Keep checking the STAR group news page to see what all our groups are up to and if you have an event, make sure you let us know so we can put it on the website too!

10th – 11th November – Get more info about Still Human Still Here
STARs tenth National Conference will see workshops and action sessions on Still Human Still Here, as well as screenings of the Still Human Still Here documentary, produced by Nick Broomfield (Director of ‘Ghosts’ )

Late November/ Early December – Lobby your MP
We will have copies of the new Still Human Still Here documentary to distribute to STAR groups. This will be a great lobbying tool so why not take a copy and show this to your local MP to get the campaign message heard? Set up screenings at your university or within local communities to let more people know about the issue of destitution. Copies will be sent out in the 3rd week of November along with a briefing pack of the best ways to use the DVD to maximum effect!

March 5th 2008 – STAR and Amnesty student Action Day
Seems a long way away at the moment but our National Student Action Day with Amnesty International on March 5th will be here before you know it! We’ll be holding mass sleepouts across the country to show our support for the Still Human Still Here campaign. Plans for this are already underway so keep in touch for all the info!

It’s been great to see so many STAR groups getting involved in campaigning against the forced destitution of failed asylum seekers. The next few months of campaigning promise to be busy with awareness raising, lobbying of MPs and our National Action Day as well as all the other fantastic events you’re all already organising! Keep it up!
