Equal Access Photo Challenge!
It’s time to get your cameras or smart phones out to show your commitment to the Equal Access campaign with a quick 1 hour action!
We want you all to send us your best photo showing support for Equal Access at your university. Sheffield STAR and other groups have already got snapping…have you?
What to Include
Your photo can be as creative as you like, but it must include:
- The Equal Access logo
- The STAR logo
- A recognisable monument or sign clearly showing it is at your University
- Students!
If you’re feeling really creative, why not also consider including the following?
- University staff
- Volunteer partners
- Video your action as well as taking a photo
- Dressing up!
Why?
STAR is campaigning to ensure that refugees have Equal Access to higher education and can join us at university as equals. Refugees and asylum seekers face a number of barriers to accessing higher education, including:
- Asylum seekers and some refugees are classed as overseas students and must pay fees on average of £11,650 per year instead of the “home fee” rate of £6,000 – £9,000 for undergraduate degrees.
- They are not allowed to take out student loans to help cover their living costs
- They cannot apply for bursaries and most scholarships
- They are not allowed to work
Your photos will be part of a MASSIVE PHOTO PETITION that will be used to lobby national decision-makers on behalf of STAR. It will also be made available for each group to use when lobbying your own Vice Chancellor. Click here for more information on what you can do to support the Equal Access campaign, or check out our fantastic campaign video!
How to Submit your Entry
- E-mail it to us via your phone or computer
- Upload it to the STAR Facebook page
Happy snapping STARs!
Top Tip: Why not also send your photo to your student paper along with a short press release explaining what the Equal Access campaign is and how students can join STAR and support the campaign at your University?
