Get ready for Refugee Week

This year Refugee Week is from the 19th-26th of June and there are plenty of ways for you to get involved! This year’s theme is ‘welcome’ and will celebrate the ways that people have been welcoming refugees to the UK in the light of the refugee crisis.

People around the country have been moved by the stories of refugees coming to seek safety in Europe and the UK. Here at STAR the number of volunteers at our conversation clubs has gone up by around 20%! This Refugee Week we will work with our partner charities and get even more people involved in making refugees feel welcome in the UK.

What can you do?

Share your stories

Refugee Week are collecting stories from volunteers and we would love to hear what you have to say about the volunteering that you do with refugees. One of our students from Croydon College has already written a great piece so check it out to get some ideas before submitting your own.

The theatre company Boxtale Soup and Stone Flowers, a refugee music collective have come together to put on ‘A Little Bite Music’ at Bridgewater Hall on the 24th June. The show will draw on Persian, Tamil and West African folklore and incorporate fairy tales and other traditional stories.
