3 New Volunteering Opportunities at STAR!

At STAR we’ve got three great volunteering opportunities on offer right now and we are looking for the right people to take on the roles – could it be you?
Events and Training Internship
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and well organised volunteer to help coordinate an annual national training event for student leaders in June 2012.
The yearly STAR committee training is a lively and fun event which brings student leaders from 34 universities across the UK together, to be inspired, and learn how to take action to make a difference to the lives of refugees in the UK. The day’s programme will include high profile speakers from the refugee movement and action workshops on topics, such as, how to campaign for refugee rights, and how to provide practical support to refugees in your local community.
You’ll get to develop your event organising skills and learn how to develop and run sucessful training sessions.You’ll also learn loads about the UK refugee movement and what STAR and other organisations are doing to fight for refugee rights. Most importantly you’ll get the chance to be part of great organisation where your role really matters.So get writing that application now!
National ESOL Support Volunteer
Do you have experience of teaching English as a foreign language. Do you want to use your skills to make a difference to the lives of refugees in the UK?
STAR is looking for a volunteer to develop a resource pack for STAR English Conversation Clubs. STAR student volunteers provide English Conversation Clubs at a number of locations across the UK in partnership with local refugee organisations. The primary aim of the Clubs is to improve the spoken English communication skills of refugee attendees, in addition we seek to reduce isolation among refugees and promote shared understanding between refugees and students.
Admin and Communications Volunteer
Get involved with STAR and help us support the network to make a difference to the lives of refugees in the UK!
In this role you’ll get to develop your admin and communications skills in a friendly supportive environment. You’ll also learn loads about the UK refugee movement, find out what STAR and other organisations are doing to fight for refugee rights and you’ll get the chance to be part of great organisation where your role really matters.
