At the end of 2015, 65.3 million – or one out of every 113 people on Earth – were displaced due to war, persecution or violence. That’s 5.8 million more than in 2014. But behind each number and every statistic is an individual’s story of a journey in search of safety.
City of Sanctuary and members of the Sanctuary Alliance, including STAR, are hosting an event in Parliament on the 29th November 2016 where MPs can hear some of these stories from refugees and their supporters from across the UK and find out about our vision of practical action and key policy changes, that will ensure a culture of welcome for all refugees across the UK.
The theme this year is “Standing up for the Right to Asylum”. The talks and personal testimonies will cover safe and legal routes to find safety in the UK, a fair and just asylum system and refugee integration. STAR will be there to talk about the importance of access to Higher Education for asylum seekers and those with DLR.
Where is it?
The event will be held in Committee Room 14 between 12.00pm – 3.30pm. STAR will be talking about the Equal Access campaign at 2.50pm.
