Amnesty International UK have teamed up with STAR for a National Student Action Week to hold mass Sleepouts nationwide to raise awareness about the destitution of refused asylum seekers.

National Student Sleepouts, 21-27 Feb 2011
STAR and Amnesty International UK have come together for a National Student Action Week to organise mass Sleepouts nationwide to:
- Highlight the scandal of destitution of thousands of refused asylum seekers
- Campaign for permission to work for asylum seekers – ask your MP to sign the Declaration!
From 21st to 27th February 2011 we need you to show your support for the Still Human Still Here campaign by organising a sleepout in your local area!
Not many people know about the scandal of thousands of people being forced into extreme poverty after an unsuccessful asylum claim.
Having a sleepout is a great, eye catching way of doing this!
Use your Sleepout to:
- Tell students and members of the public about the problem of destitution
- Join together with other local organisations supporting the campaign
- Grab the attention of your local MP
- Take the campaign action for permission to work
- Get more members for your group and future campaigning!
Start planning now!
- Ask your local Amnesty student group if they want to organise a join sleepout (see attached for details)
- Find a location on your university campus or in the city centre
- Set a date during the week 21-27 Feb
- Decide entertainment: speakers, films, music, food…
- Publicise your Sleepout and get local support
- Tell STAR National your plans ASAP
National Support
You will be part of a national week of student actions and will have the support of the STAR National Team and Amnesty UK Head Office.
- Action Pack – everything you need to know for a successful sleepout will be posted to your group by the end of January and made available online
- Share Ideas – use Facebook to share creative ideas

This action is a follow up to the STAR and Amnesty national sleepouts in March 2008, where over 750 students took part in 21 sleepouts… let’s make it bigger and better in 2011 with 1,000 students in 30 sleepouts!
Still Human Still Here is a coalition of more than 40 organisations that are campaigning to end the destitution of thousands of refused asylum seekers in the UK.
