STAR prepares to launch Refugee Children’s Programme

In the autumn STAR will be launching a new Refugee Children’s Programme offering a range of exciting opportunities for STAR Groups to develop exciting, effective and safe projects benefiting young refugees. To kick things off, we are holding a residential training event for student volunteers about how to organise activities for refugee children – and there are still a few places up for grabs!

The Refugee Children’s Programme is a new 3 year project funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. They basically think the work STAR groups do with children is ace, and want you all to do even more!

This training event will launch the new programme, and is suitable for STAR committee members who are already organising projects for refugee children or those who think they might want to in the future.

Each place on this training course would normally cost £300. But each STAR group can have up to 2 free places. The course is happening on September 6th and 7th in Bristol, and includes everything – travel, food, accommodation, training and materials.

By the end of the weekend you will be able to:

  • Research the needs of young refugees in your area and then develop a project plan to meet these
  • Identify and develop partnerships with local partners who can help you to deliver the project
  • Plan the project launch, including how to recruit young refugees and student volunteers and make sure those important first sessions are a success
  • Safely organise activities for young refugees
  • Learn how to involve young refugees in designing, delivering and evaluating your activities
  • Understand how you can measure the impact of your project for the young people you work with
