STAR uses art to cross borders

To celebrate refugee week STAR and Centrepoint’s Youth Volunteering Service are proud to present a unique art exhibition, Crossing Borders, which will be on show in the Oxford House café in Bethnal Green from the 15th June -13th July. The exhibition is the culmination of a 6 week art project organised by the London School of Economics STAR group and Centrepoint.

“I really liked the project because I learnt so many new things like how to draw, improve my English, working within a team, and doing a lots of different tasks”

LSE STAR volunteers facilitated and participated in weekly art sessions alongside young people living within Centrepoint’s services to create artwork which explored their views of culture, identity and different perspectives of London. The works were created through a variety of media, painting, sculpture, photography and illustration, with individual identities shining through in the lines, colours and distinct styles of the pieces. The art sessions were great fun and brought together a diverse group of people to create some lovely pieces. So come down and have a look!

“Everything about this project was good! I love making masks so this was my favourite but I also enjoyed taking photos and making collages. I feel that the whole group was full of lots of characters but it really helped me to interact with different types of people that I wouldn’t usually come into contact with.”

The exhibition is shown on Centre Point’s website
