Take Action Today! Tell your MP to vote next Monday on the Immigration Bill

On Monday 25th April, the Immigration Bill will be debated in the House of Commons with key amendments that could make significant improvements to the lives of people seeking refugee protection. Ask your MP to support them!

What positive changes can MPs vote for?

The Immigration Bill has passed Report Stage in the House of Lords and there are 4 really positive proposals which MPs can vote on when it returns to the House of Commons on Monday 25th April.

You only have this week to tell your MP that you want them to support these changes. Whether you email your MP, call their surgery or tweet them, make sure you take action today and ask everyone you know to do the same!

So don’t delay, contact your MP and ask them to go to the vote on Monday and agree to these 4 positive amendments:

1.To accept 3,000 unaccompanied refugee children who are currently in Europe. Amendment 87.

***UPDATE: On the 21st April the Government announced that they will be taking a further 3,000 unaccompanied children from the refugee camps in the Middle East and North Africa. While we welcome these changes which will undoubtedly change thousands of lives, this figure will not include any of the thousands of vulnerable refugee children who have made it in Europe. The Immigration Bill vote on Monday is still very important as it has the amendment to welcome at risk children already in Europe to the UK so please keep the pressure up on your MP to support it!

2.To give asylum seekers permission to work if their claim for asylum is not processed by the Home Office within six months Amendment 59.

3.To introduce automatic judicial oversight of detention and require the Home Secretary to gain permission from the courts to detain an individual for longer than 28 days. Amendment 84.

4.To introduce an absolute exclusion on the detention of pregnant women, in line with recommendations in the recent Shaw Review. Amendment 85.

This is an amazing opportunity to call on MPs across the country to say ‘Refugees Welcome Here’!
