Scholarship Deadlines and Summer Courses for refugees and asylum seekers
Opportunities and information about courses, summer schools and scholarship application deadlines for people seeking refugee protection in the UK.
There are many exciting programmes and opportunities going on this summer for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Check out these programmes and opportunities that are being offered to see if one is right for you!
1.) The Bayswater foundation summer school
The Bayswater Foundation is offering a Summer Camp School hosted by the University of Nottingham for refugees ages 14-17 and ages 18-35 who wish to return to full-time study or work. This programme would run for two weeks between 29th July – 12th August and offers participants a mix of English language lessons for those that need them, academic skills workshops, soft skills & cultural sessions, and activities. At the end of this two week session, it is expected that participants will have gained the confidence to increase in communicating in English as well as had a taste of what university life is like. 2.) Summer School at the University of York
The University of York’s summer YESS programmes are open to asylum seeking and refugee students through the University of York’s amazing partnership with STAR for Equal Access. Applications are now open for two four day residential summer schools for prospective students who are in the process of seeking refugee protection. 3.) Bread baking course for refugees in London
The organisation Refugees into Jobs is offering a Just Bread Baking course this summer running for 10 weeks located in Hackler and Poplar. Just Bread aims to bring together London’s refugees through baking, and participants will gain a Food and Hygiene Level 1 Certificate. Individuals with refugee status, a family reunion visa or humanitarian protection as a result of asylum are eligible and welcome to apply for this wonderful opportunity! 5.) Distance learning scholarship with Arizona State University
Arizona State University is offering a chance for disadvantaged Arab youth to complete their master’s degrees online through scholarships! ASU is offering scholarships for 29 different specializations ranging from engineering, technology, health, tourism, etc. In order to be eligible for this opportunity you must be an Arab citizen, be less than thirty years old, have at least a 3.0 bachelor’s GPA, be in financial need, have English proficiency, and not already have earned a master’s degree. Deadline to apply for this awesome summer opportunity is 26th May. More info about how to apply for this opportunity can be found here
5.) Scholarship in TESOL MA at the University of Hull
The University of Hull is offering an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Scholarship! This scholarship includes a tuition and fees waiver at the ‘home/EU’ student rate (£7000) and a living costs contribution of £6000 for one year. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must have a 2.2 honours degree in a relevant course, have proficiency in English, be seeking asylum in the UK or is dependent on or a spouse of someone seeking asylum, or have been granted Leave to Remain. Students who are selected for this scholarship will start in September 2019, and the deadline to apply for this scholarship opportunity is 6th May!
