Training
STAR offers a range of training opportunities for STAR groups and students. This includes national or regional training events, plus our suite of interactive training courses that can be delivered on campus.
Committee Training
Committee training is the big (and free!) event for all STAR student volunteers who will be (or are thinking of being) involved in the running of their STAR Group. Whether you are a new recruit to a committee role or an old hand who has been involved in STAR for years, this is the event for you! Committee training will provide you with the knowledge, skills, resources and contacts to enable you to drive your STAR Group forward to enjoy plenty of success in achieving change for refugees in 2008/09. Outgoing members are also welcome to attend.

Training on campus (for STAR Groups)
During 2008 the STAR National Support Office will unveil a new suite of training courses for STAR groups. Each course has been created in response to what you have told us you would like made available, and in most cases we are working with external organisations to ensure the content is as up to date and useful as possible.
STAR Groups will be able to book the courses for free. STAR will come and deliver the course of your choice on your campus (or another venue you choose). Occasionally we will also organise courses within a region and individuals from any STAR group will be able to book a place.
Child Protection
The first course to be launched is child protection, developed with help from the NSPCC. The suggested time for this course is 4 hours, although we will run a 2 hour session. Content includes how to identify the signs and indicators of child abuse, what actions volunteers should take in the event of having a concern and specific issues in the refugee sector. All those who attend will receive a STAR and NSPCC branded certificate.
How to book a course on campus (for STAR Groups)
You can book a training course at your university by calling the STAR National Support Office on 020 7840 4426 or using the online booking form
Training on campus (for other organisations)
STAR can deliver all the above training sessions, or develop a bespoke training sessions, for student community action groups or other volunteering organisations on campus. There will be a small charge to cover the costs incurred in delivering these sessions. To discuss the options please call Russell, STAR’s Volunteer Support Officer on 020 7840 4426.
